UK Energy Market Update: Mid-August

Energy prices have softened through mid-August, as geopolitical developments and stable supply fundamentals have eased some of the pressure seen earlier in the summer.

Electricity Market Movements

Power prices have dipped despite persistent heatwaves, aided by stronger solar generation.

A drop in nuclear generation caused short-term volatility, but prices have since stabilised.

Electricity prices have recently seen further decreases, supported by milder temperature forecasts and signs of recovery in nuclear generation.

Gas Market Movements

Gas prices moved lower as geopolitical tensions eased, and European storage levels continued to build steadily.

Supply has remained strong, supported by healthy pipeline flows and increased LNG deliveries across Europe.

While demand remains above seasonal norms, overall gas usage has softened slightly compared to earlier in the summer.
