Uber is putting its foot down on electrification – and a new deal with Octopus Energy aims to accelerate the shift.
The ride-hailing app is already leading the pack, with London clocking up more electric miles than any other city globally and 40% of Uber journeys in the capital now battery-powered.
Uber Drivers are adopting electric vehicles five times faster than the general public.
To keep the momentum going, Octopus is offering the first 1,000 Uber drivers who switch to its Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, a free home charger worth £900.
The tariff uses smart tech to automate charging at the cheapest times, slashing costs and easing pressure on the grid.
Drivers on the plan could save more than £700 a year on fuel compared to petrol, and over £400 compared to a standard energy tariff.
Public charging gets a boost too, with drivers receiving 8% off top-ups via the Octopus Electroverse, covering over 36,000 charge points across the UK.
The deal tackles one of the biggest blockers to electrification: access to affordable, reliable charging.
For Uber, it’s another step towards its goal of becoming fully electric in London and beyond. For cities choked by pollution, it’s a move that could deliver cleaner air, quieter streets and a greener future.
