Based in Warrington, GBE-N is tasked with rolling out small modular reactors (SMRs) across the UK. The agreement means Prospect will now negotiate on pay, pensions and working conditions, and will be consulted on policies and organisational changes.
Prospect already represents thousands across the civil nuclear sector, including the NDA estate, ONR, and UKAEA, making it a natural fit for GBE-N’s growing team.
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband welcomed the move, saying: “This is not only an important step towards ensuring economic security for workers, but also a recognition of the essential role that trade unions are playing in driving forward good terms and conditions and clean energy for the country.”
Prospect General Secretary Mike Clancy called the deal “an important symbol that with government investment must come good quality unionised jobs,” adding that unions are vital in maintaining high standards, especially around health and safety.
Gwen Parry-Jones, CEO of GBE-N, said: “Trade unions have such an important role to play in our sector. I’m delighted to have signed this agreement and look forward to a strong working relationship with Prospect.”
The deal marks another step in the government’s push to make clean energy the backbone of the UK’s future – with union-backed jobs at the heart of the plan.
