More than 140 water efficiency audits have been delivered at sites in England and Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland, so far, in 2025, for J D Wetherspoon, with additional water tracking technology installed at more than 70 locations. A further 33 sites, that includes pubs and hotels will also be visited during 2025 with the work also improving location data J D Wetherspoon has for water meters so the portfolio is easier to monitor.
The programme’s also seen more than 180 water efficiency devices installed in 2025 at locations in Scotland, with a site in England also receiving flush saving devices to cut water use and prevent water waste.
Mark Miller, Senior Manager Facilities and Pub Services at J D Wetherspoon, said: “The water audit water management programme with Water Plus and installation of additional water tracking technology is really helping further our understanding around water use, giving us a fuller picture of how water’s used at locations.
“The results of the additional water tracking technology, installed through Water Plus on water meters, have been insightful so far and have already allowed us to identify water saving opportunities in some of our pubs.
“JD Wetherspoon is committed to reducing unnecessary water usage and operating ethically and sustainably.”
The Key Account Manager from Water Plus, that’s working with J D Wetherspoon, has also completed 20 site visits in 2025, sharing their knowledge on where water-saving opportunities are and building awareness amongst J D Wetherspoon managers.
And the introduction of additional technology – which sees data loggers installed on water meters – feeding information each day into an online portal, provided by Water Plus, has already alerted J D Wetherspoon to water use increases. It’s allowed their team to quickly take action and reduce use at one site in Scotland by 820 litres an hour.
During one of the water-saving audits – at another site – a connection on a pipe, which was loose and causing water loss, was also tightened and fixed during a site visit in March 2025.
At another location a hot and cold water leak was also located during a water audit in May 2025.
As there are carbon emissions linked to all water used by businesses – decreases in water use means a reduction in carbon emissions.
J D Wetherspoon is committed to Net Zero in the UK and Ireland by 2050 and to achieving this sooner, if possible.
