The figure was a staggering 145.4% higher than the same time period in 2024, according to Mercom India Research’s India Solar Market Update.
Solar made up 64% of all new power capacity added in the quarter, helping total installations reach 18GW in the first half of 2025, up 31% year on year.
Developers accelerated commissioning ahead of June to secure the 100% interstate transmission charge waiver, alongside rising distribution company demand for round-the-clock renewable supply.
Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra led utility-scale additions in the quarter with shares of 33.7%, 27% and 17.4% respectively.
As of June 2025, cumulative installed solar stood at 116.4GW, with large-scale projects accounting for nearly 86% and rooftop around 14%.
Solar now represents about 24% of India’s total installed power capacity and over 49% of installed renewables.
Rajasthan, Gujarat and Karnataka are the top three states on cumulative large-scale capacity at roughly 29%, 18% and 13%.
The forward pipeline remains substantial. Large-scale projects under development total almost 191GW, with more than 131GW tendered and pending auction.
