£18 million boost for Oil and Gas workers to re-skill

The programme offers careers advice and training grants to help experienced oil and gas staff pivot into roles across renewables, grids, hydrogen, and carbon capture.

It complements more than £120 million already invested in the North East through the Just Transition Fund and Energy Transition Fund.

Energy Secretary Gillian Martin said the package will “support more offshore workers to take on different roles across the sustainable energy sector over the next three years,” adding that ministers will explore guaranteed interview schemes, redeployment pools, and skills passporting with the UK Government.

UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said the clean energy “jobs boom” can keep talent in Scottish communities. He described a “pro-worker, pro-jobs, pro-union” agenda aimed at delivering secure, well-paid roles from plumbers and electricians to welders.

Funding will prioritise accredited, job-linked courses and align with major project pipelines to speed job matching.

Delivery partners will include colleges, training providers, and employers to ensure rapid deployment and recognised qualifications.
