OVO research reveals top scenic routes cost under £3 in an EV and save up to £54
As the late May bank holiday approaches, new research from OVO reveals the Lake District loop is Britain’s favourite road trip route.
But petrol comes at a price: drivers could save up to 88% by switching to electric vehicles.
While half of Brits are planning road trips, only 33% will do so in electric or hybrid cars.
A significant 63% will stick with petrol vehicles – despite 9 out of 10 top road trips costing less than £3 in an EV.
Topping the list is the Lake District loop at just £2.63 for 150 miles, compared to £25.81 in a petrol car.
The North Coast 500, Scotland’s iconic 516-mile route, costs from £34.33 in an EV – saving drivers up to £54.42, even with a top-up charge en route.
But 40% of people don’t realise EVs are cheaper to run and cost is still cited as a barrier.
Beyond the savings, 84% of business leaders at a recent Congress of Business event said green tech opens new opportunities, but 78% said support was lacking.
Alex Thwaites, Director of EV at OVO, said: “You can now travel up to 300 miles on a single EV charge and charging infrastructure is improving fast.”
If you are heading out this weekend get ready for the top three gripes…
Traffic and roadworks
Crying kids and…
“Are we there yet?”
