Scotland is backing its offshore wind supply chain with £6 million of funding aimed at unlocking jobs and infrastructure in key coastal hubs.

The investment targets the Inner Moray Firth and Stornoway, two areas expected to play a central role in servicing the next wave of fixed and floating wind projects.

Around £3.9 million will go towards the Ardersier Energy Transition Facility, set to become one of the largest offshore wind hubs on the North Sea coast.

A further £2.05 million has been awarded to Navantia UK for upgrades at the Arnish yard in Stornoway, part of a wider £5 million project expected to create more than 75 jobs.

An additional £965,000 will support early-stage work to prepare the site for future expansion.

Navantia said the upgrades will allow the yard to handle larger offshore structures while reducing energy use, with its workforce expected to grow from 150 to 250 over the next decade.

Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes said: “Offshore wind is one of the biggest economic opportunities Scotland has ever had… these investments will significantly boost Scotland’s clean energy sector.”

Developers say strengthening the supply chain is now critical as projects scale and competition intensifies across Europe.
