Hastings in East Sussex has recorded the biggest rise in heat pump adoption in the country, with installations up 393% in just a year, according to analysis by Uswitch.com.
The seaside borough climbed 125 places up the UK Heat Pump Index 2025, as the proportion of homes using the technology rose from 0.2% in 2024 to 1% this year.
The data, based on nearly 26 million Energy Performance Certificates, shows a growing shift toward cleaner, more efficient heating.
Cornwall retains the highest number of installations overall, with 15,208 homes now fitted with heat pumps.
The South West leads the nation, with over 6% of households having adopted the technology.
Mid Suffolk has the highest proportion of all regions, where more than 8% of homes use heat pumps.
Uswitch.com found that there are now almost 300,000 heat pumps operating across the UK, including 267,000 air source and 28,000 ground source systems.
However, nationwide adoption remains low, with just 1.3% of homes using the technology.
Households replacing a gas boiler with a ground source heat pump could cut bills by up to 50%, depending on efficiency and tariffs.
