UKO Glass Limited Case Study

About The Client

UKO Glass is a manufacturer of specialist high-performance and fire-rated products for the construction sector.

Faced Challenges

UKO Glass reached out to CES for support after receiving a deemed balance of £84,994.87 from their supplier when moving into a new property. The supplier’s collections team demanded immediate settlement and gave minimal time to respond. They also refused to allow both a settlement and an instalment plan, instead pressing for full payment or threatening immediate legal escalation.

This situation placed significant financial strain on the client who was newly established. The balance was not only unexpectedly high but also based on deemed rates, which are considerably more expensive than contracted rates. With limited flexibility offered by the supplier, the client required professional support to challenge the charges and negotiate a more favourable outcome.

Solution

CES stepped in to provide expert guidance and negotiation support. Our Billing Executive worked closely with UKO Glass to carefully review the case and identify weaknesses in the supplier’s approach. Through this process, we were able to:

  • Advise on negotiation strategy – recommending that UKO Glass revise their settlement offer to a more strategic figure of £60,000, supported by sound reasoning.
  • Highlight flaws in the supplier’s handling – including failures in the complaints process and the supplier’s reliance on their collections team rather than an impartial review.
  • Reference to prior settlement offers – noting that the supplier had previously indicated a willingness to accept lower figures, which strengthened the client’s position.
  • Support with communication – drafting and refining correspondence to ensure the client’s arguments were clear, professional, and persuasive.
  • Prevent escalation – by keeping dialogue open and constructive, CES helped avoid immediate transfer of the case to the supplier’s legal team.

Outcome

With CES’s involvement, UKO Glass successfully reduced the balance from £84,994.87 to £60,000 — a saving of nearly £25,000. The amount was also restructured to be paid in three manageable monthly instalments, protecting the business from sudden financial pressure and avoiding costly legal proceedings.

This outcome demonstrates the value of having CES as a trusted partner: we not only challenge incorrect or unfair charges but also provide businesses with the strategic expertise to navigate complex negotiations and secure the best possible result.
